I have just put down a deposit on a very expensive puppy. I fell in love with the pictures, and frankly, I've never raised my own puppy from a baby. She is 5 weeks old right now, and won't be able to come home until she is 8 weeks old. There is some controversy surrounding this purchase.
1. I have to get my tax return in order to pay off the bill. I've been lazy, but should get that rolling on Monday (I got an extension in April because I was out of state.)
2. I've never met the parents
3. I've no idea who the breeder is, only that she is in Arkansas, and has three young children, the parents and this litter in her home.
4. The puppy will be shipped to me. Shipping was included in the price.
5. The puppy is not AKC
I bought this puppy on purebredbreeders.com. There is much discussion online regarding this organization. They seem to be a puppy brokerage. Online discussions point toward this company being a puppy mill brokerage, but the agent with whom I spoke, Deborah, said that the goal of this company is to eliminate puppy mills by supporting small, qualified breeders exclusively. She said that they have a high standard for breeders, and that approximately 70% of breeders who apply to participate with their organization are turned away. The breeders have to adhere to strict guidelines for health checks and breeding standards. My understanding was that each breeder's home/breeding site is subject to a visit prior to participation. There are logs of testimonials on the website.
I understand that an agent can say whatever he/she needs to make a sale, but frankly, it sounded good too me. Given this point in the tech revolution, it seems like this is an excellent way to place purebred pups in the hands of future owners. Now, here are some photos of the puppy.
So what is a woman who lost her beloved Frenchie two years ago to do? I am smitten beyond all rationality, and am currently looking at names for my future child. Here's a starter list. If you have any to add, please do so.

Now we have some updated pictures. She's 6 weeks. I got a nice note from the breeder as well: Amber just turned six weeks old and she has so much fun playing with her sisters, she has been started on puppy potty pads, Amber is very sweet she really likes to be held right now and we share lots of kisses. Amber is free fed soaked dry food and is just being weened from mom. She will start to spend some time alone in her crate this week so she will be ready to travel.
Have A Great Day
